Chess Bots

Play chess against a bot online

You can play chess against a bot online on DiceyTable, free and in your browser. Open Chess, pick the Scripted version, put a bot in the other seat and choose how hard it plays.

There are two kinds of chess bot. Maia is built on a neural network trained on human games, so it plays the way people play, and it comes in three levels. The Minimax bot searches ahead through possible moves and has Easy, Normal and Hard. In the Scripted version, the game's script enforces the rules, shows whose turn it is and declares the winner.

The bot runs in your own browser, so there is nothing to install. When the game ends, you can return to the lobby for a rematch, and a game against a bot can count toward your ranked Score.

What is DiceyTable?

DiceyTable is a free 3D virtual tabletop that runs in your browser. Its Chess game has a real board and pieces on a physics table, a Scripted version that knows the rules, and bots for the nights when no friend is free to play.

Of the board games, only Chess and Othello have bots today. Every player needs a free account, including when you play a bot on your own.
