Spades is a partnership game, which makes it the best card game on this list for a group of four who actually want to talk to each other while they play.
Partners sit opposite each other. Deal the whole deck, thirteen cards each. Starting left of the dealer, every player bids the number of tricks they expect to take; a partnership's contract is the two bids added together. Bidding nil — promising to take no tricks at all — is worth a large bonus and an equally large penalty.
Follow suit if you can. Spades are always trump and beat any other suit, and the highest spade played takes the trick. Spades may not be led until someone has been unable to follow suit and has discarded one — the same 'breaking' rule Hearts uses.
Make your contract and score ten points per trick bid. Miss it and you lose ten per trick bid. Tricks taken above the contract are 'bags' — worth one point each, but ten accumulated bags cost you a hundred, which is what stops everyone underbidding. Play to 500.
