# AI agents, dice chips and stats

> AI agent access is free on every plan. But a table session with any agent time, on any tab or device of yours, earns no dice chips, stats or achievements.

- Question: Does using an AI agent cost me dice chips or stats?

It costs you rewards, not money. A table session with any AI agent time earns no dice chips, adds nothing to your
stats and checks no achievements.

Chips, stats and achievements are there to reward people playing. An agent could play all day without a break, so
DiceyTable keeps agent time out of all of them. The server applies the rule when each table session ends.

## Is AI agent access free?

Yes. Connecting an agent is free on every plan. You don't need a membership to
[create an API key](https://diceytable.com/docs/ai-agents/setup/api-keys) or pair a tab. The only "price" is the rule on this page: the
sessions an agent touches don't pay out.

## The rule

> **A table session with any AI agent time earns nothing and records nothing.**

![A table session timeline where one short stretch of agent time cancels chips and stats for the whole session](https://diceytable.com/assets/build/chips-and-stats--session-timeline-B6vXht3I.svg "**One stretch is enough.** Any agent time during a session means the whole session records nothing.")

"Any agent time" counts across your **whole account**, on every tab and every device. Say an agent works for you in
the editor on your laptop while you sit at a table on your phone. That table session counts as agent-touched too.

A few more details matter:

- An agent that connected and then disconnected part-way through still counts.
- If the server can't be sure a session was agent-free, it records nothing. It never guesses in your favor.
- A session with no agent time still needs at least 2 minutes of active play to count. That rule is the same for
  everyone, agent or not.

## What a session records

| | 2+ minutes of play, no agent time | Any other session |
|---|---|---|
| Dice chips for the session | Paid | **None** |
| Your stats: sessions, table time, tables hosted, different games | Counted | **Nothing added** |
| Achievements | Checked, and paid | **Not checked** |
| The game's play statistics ("players joined", "games played") | Counted | **Nothing** |

A session that counts also helps you qualify to rate a game. Those rules apply to every player, so they live in the
[Help Center](https://diceytable.com/help#rate-and-review).

## Why doesn't the time I played myself count?

It would seem fair to count only the minutes you played by hand. Here is why DiceyTable doesn't.

Every achievement reads the same few counters: sessions, table time, tables hosted and different games played. And
achievements pay chips. If the human minutes of an agent session went into those counters, they could push you past
an achievement at the next check. That would pay chips for a session the agent touched. So an agent-touched session
adds **zero** table time, and the rule stays simple.

## Good to know

- **Records land when a session ends,** not when you join. A room where nobody stays 2 minutes records no play at
all, and the counts trail behind by about one session.
- **The lobby records nothing.** Only the table session after the start does.
- **Previews never record anything,** with an agent or without one.
- **Some features keep working.** The rejoin card and "recently played with" aren't rewards, so agent time doesn't
  touch them.
- **Your agent's work is listed in one place:** **Settings ▸ AI agents ▸ Recent sessions**, at
[/play/settings](https://diceytable.com/play/settings#ai-agents). [What leaves your computer](https://diceytable.com/docs/ai-agents/concepts/privacy) explains
  what that history keeps.

## What to do before you play for keeps

Disconnect your agent first. Connecting one costs you the chips and stats of every table session that overlaps it,
anywhere on your account. [Disconnect, revoke or remove the agent](https://diceytable.com/docs/ai-agents/setup/uninstall) shows how. Pausing
isn't enough, because a paused agent is still connected.

Other players see an [AI badge](https://diceytable.com/docs/ai-agents/concepts/multiplayer-disclosure) while your tab in their room is
connected to an agent. And an agent keeps a match out of the Rankings, as
[AI agents and ranked matches](https://diceytable.com/docs/ai-agents/concepts/ranked-play) explains.
